How Can We Help?
Updating Content With the Bulk ImportUpdating Content With the Bulk Import
What
You are looking for a way to (bulk) update content and consider if Bulk import can be used?
How
Updating content with the bulk import is ONLY available for Research output content type.
Strongly recommended to test this in a staging/ test environment first before implementing in a production server.
We also recommend you to use configurable sync. jobs or master list import instead of using the bulk import for updating content - the reason being that everything has to be in the XML file upon each upload, as you can accidentally be deleting data in pure when bulk importing if the data is missing in the XML file. Whereas sync jobs can be configured not to delete data in Pure if missing/removed from source/xml.
When using the bulk import, when you include XML that has updates, the bulk import will give you the below options at the verify stage before proceeding to the final import.
Toggle ON the "update existing publications" option if you would like the import to update fields that have been identified as changed (note this setting alone only applies to previously bulk imported content and fields that have not been modified by a user).
Additional options include (descriptions below are also noted on each setting directly in Pure under each option):
- Allow Change of publication template: Makes it possible to change the template of a publication when in update mode. When changing template all fields will be rewritten based on the data in the XML. Dependencies to the content will be kept.
- Allow update of non- imported content: Enabling this feature allows the wizard to match content not imported by the wizard. It uses the 'id" attribute of the publication to search broadly in Pure for matching publication, e.g. UUID.
- Allow update of user-modified changes: Enabling this setting allows the wizard to update fields that have been changed by users. CAUTION: THIS WILL OVERRIDE ANY CHANGES MADE BY USERS AND REPLACE IT WITH THE DATA IN THE XML.
